The Lost Machine is a novella written and illustrated by Richard A. Kirk, and published by Radiolaria Studios in August 2010. The story takes place in Irridia, a world of crumbling cities, where a teacher, falsely imprisoned for the murder of his students embarks on a harrowing journey to uncover the truth of his past. He travels in the uneasy company of an enigmatic stranger.

The Lost Machine is a stand alone story, but is also part of the Necessary Monsters Cycle. The second installment, The Red Lamprey, will be published in 2011.
